What a (Provincial) Tool!

Yeah, yeah. Long time no post ....
Long days and getting home after 7 is like that. Also no pictures due to the -30 degree weather we've been having. Both my ass and my camera have been reluctant to venture forth.

Anyways ...
It was thoroughly satisfying to see the Pope of Ontario, John Tory , take yet another nose dive into his ass this morning. I can't believe the effort this guy has gone to in order to ensure the Liberals maintain power. I swear he's on the payroll of McSquinty as a corporate level danglie-twiddler.
After his third successful attempt to sabotage his party (fourth if you count that religion in schools thing ... five if you consider his leadership campaign), he's finally getting the message that we don't like him.
This round, the bi-election has cost his party an heirloom seat in Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock (formerly held by Laurie Scott). Apparently her father was an MP in the area for nearly 30 years and this was a PC stronghold since '94.
Nice job. :stupid:
I am genuinely curious though, did he really figure out that Ontariates think he's a douche, has he run out of MPP's willing to give up seats to the Liberals, or is there simply a mob forming outside his window led by Christine Elliott.
At the very least, I hope it was a pleasant slap in the nuts for politicians trying to return god-fearing religions to schools.

... Then again, why let a little thing like facts get in the way of the poor judgement of the godly devout?

Gag orders and the Chains of Government

I was very disturbed to read about the prosecution of Mark Steyn and the potential for his book, "America Alone", to be banned from Canadian shelves.
Banning books? What's next, burning them? Burning people?
What year is this?

Viva Cuba!
Wednesday, 20 February, 2008, 09:15 - - History, - Politics
So it appears that we are facing the end of an era.
For nearly 50 years (and 10 administrations), Fidel Castro has been the thorn in the side of the US. A guilty little stain on the carpet they don't like to talk to guests about and try to blame the previous owners for.
Now that he has announced his secession from power, the American Capitalist machine is hungrily awaiting to buy up scads of prime tropical land right off their doorstep.
No doubt we will see in 10 years a total collapse of the Cuban economy as the last (and closest to successful) Communist regime of fiscal balance and repression of individual rights is replaced with raw American greed ... and no doubt the American dollar. A flurry of Industrial rape that we haven't seen since the inception of NAFTA.
One thing is for certain, if you want to see Cuba cheap you need to do it now. Once it's socially acceptable for those south of the border types it'll be the end of Cuba as an affordable destination spot (see Hawaii).
Actually, if you're interested, prices from Toronto are down to about $710 taxes in for the end of March.
"The revolution will continue" - Raul Castro

It is expected that Castro's "young brother", Raul, will continue to run the country for the time being but he's no spring chicken either.
:oldman: At 76, I suspect the Revolution will be done in those same 10 years with the end of the Castro dynasty or face civil war.

Harper in Australia
Tuesday, 11 September, 2007, 15:04 - - Politics
I am so happy we actually have someone leading the country that is willing to hire (and use!) speech writers.
Harper managed to pass himself off sounding like he almost actually knew something about Australian history (although I understand he is a bit of a history/war buff, so it's probably no small coincidence that he sites Vimy Ridge and Gallipoli), and potentially even what was happening in our own filthy little backyard (but politely sidesteps the messy bits we're hiding).
Somehow, I think Cretien's speach would have been a little shorter and somewhat less inspiring ...

Shoo(t)ing Pinkos

Well, I see Harper has stepped into a nice, steaming little pile of left-wing trap.
Using police forces to extricate the public eye from his presence. Excellent!
:coffeeme: I know the Toronto Star, at least, will love him for it come election time. Perhaps we can see him ordering tanks into Nathan Phillips square next, just to give them something else to stab at him with.
Perhaps shootin' them Injuns ... :dualpistols:

In any case, I'm sure he'll get his sentence in the pages history yet ... or we'll die trying!

"I Cannot Do My Job By Bicycle" ... Jackass

Yeah that sounds like a legitimate cry of defence to me.
NDP researchers have discovered that the 'Honourable" Jean-Pierre Blackburn (MP for the Jonquière-Alma riding in Quebec, Labour Minister and, presumably devout, Tory) has racked up an impressive $149,389 in private plane rentals for the 2006 fiscal year (that's March 2006 to April, 2007, btw) and hasn't made the details readily available on his public accountability website.
What's his best excuse for it?

You Want Us to Stick What Where???
Sunday, 4 March, 2007, 05:52 - General, - Politics
Well, it is nice to see that our government is finally acknowledging the fact that we have an imminant environmental crisis looming on the horizon, at a national level that is (Calgary initiated a wind powered C-Train in 2001 and PEI is considering their own Green initiative to finally switch their 'Wind Rich' province to a minimum of 15% self-sufficient wind power by 2010). :woot:
