Cyberware.ca Flora and Fauna - Scarborough, Ontario skyline in infrared. Photo Date: 23 August, 2004

Focal Length: 6mm
Camera: Fuji S5000

Category: Black and White / Duotones

An early attempt at IR photography with the Fuji camera (and a Hoya R-72 Infrared Filter). This particular shot uses the Scarborough, Ont civic center and the former surrounding skyline. The rather sizable building being constructed in the background is now flanked by others of equal size (some 30 or 40 stories by the time they where done. Needless to say, this skyline no longer exists in the real world.

I'm still not entirely convinced of the practicality of IR photos. The long exposure times required and silly amounts of light (usually resulting in really long exposure times) really reduce the opportunities to bring out the filter. Although the effect is interesting and lends itself well to false colouration, I don't know if the tradeoff is entirely worth the effort.
Still, I have yet to try an IR filter on the Olympus, and it has a free release shutter. If I can figure out a way to keep the sensor cool, perhaps I can minimize the noise and work out a way to make it worth while.

:crossfinger: Can't wait for that warmer weather!

IHS.
The not so secret phrase used by the church to identify their property and worshippers. Although little more then branding, the imagery of these 3 simple letters is usually carefully crafted and provides many moments of examination.
The object itself is a cornerstone for a church near Hog's Hollow, North York.

P.S. It stands for "In His Service", if you haven't seen it before. :pope:

The Nestle building in North York at Younge and Sheppard. It took a bit of roaming around like a loon, bobbing and weaving to get the sun pleasantly behind the building but the effect was interesting enough and the clouds where quite interesting to look at that day. Unfortunately the optimum angle seemed to be somewhere inside the Sheppard Centre, but I made due with where I could get.

:camera: Behind the Lens Details
Photo was hit with heavy contrast (legacy as it was PS/CS1) and sharpened (unsharp mask) just enough to give the building a light halo effect to project the sun's glow down the length of the building and make it stand out from the rest of the shot.

A once favourite past time of mine, staring crookedly and TTC transit signs waiting for trains in the wee hours of the morning, hoping that by some miracle I might catch the last GO Bus out of the city and actually sleep in a bed instead of a doorway. I thought about blurring the edges some so it was more like I remembered, but I find alcohol enhanced memories are not entirely accurate on rare occations.
Taken of course at York Mills Station on my way to some Friday evening rendezvous, prior to imbibing my way to totally ineffective super powers.
In seriousness, the lines and texturess of the old stations can really be quite interesting, in their own way. York Mills has an interesting, almost deck-board look to it. Longitudinal lines run the complete length of the platform (which is a centre-line platform and it's edges and floor tiles add to the effect). A dream come true for someone wishing to study proportional perspectives. In this case, I was more interested in the layering of lines and their relations dispite the simplicity of the image.

I always liked this shot. While wondering around Toronto, I've always found a certain idle facination with the lines of buildings. Heights and convergences combining with vast blue(ish ...ly smoggy skies...).
This particular morning, I was wondering around North York and stumbled upon this little piece of history nestled behind Empress Walk. It is a partial reconstruction of North York's Ivan M. Nelson Firehall. Erected in 1942, it was apparently North York's first and housed an impressive 5 full-time firemen.
Although the hall was decommissioned in 1989, the tower (technically a "hose tower", used to hang and dry wet hoses) was dismantled and reassembled in the Empress park as "an important element interpreting North York's early municiple heritage" (a shot of the Blue Heritage Plaque is available should anyone really want it). Other elements of the Colonial Revival styled building can be seen incorporated into the Empress Walk development (a condo/mall type thinggy). A very neat idea for preserving pieces of heritage without looking at the eyesores of decaying buildings.

Unfortunately, I no longer remember where this is, other then somewhere on Duplex Ave (near Yonge St, in Toronto). I was actually out shooting churches that day for whatever reason, and the icicles and vivid red really caught my attention.
Distinctly a neat looking house.
