More of this waterfall on Volcán Miravalles, Costa Rica:

Although soggy, I just couldn't get enough of the colours here. The deep reds of the iron leeching out of the water, brought fourth from the depths of the volcano, and the vibrant greens of the leaves soaking in all that rain.
Poor weather, poor lighting but still amazing views.

Fiery-Billed Aracari
(Pteroglossus Frantzii)

Apparently these little dudes are only found on the Pacific side of Costa Rica, Panama and occasionally, Honduras. Dispite the small habitat, they are thankfully not endangered in any way. Apparently there are a good number of them packed in that thin line.
This particular one is a juvenile, so he has yet to develop his full ' Fiery Bill', a really neat red and yellow colouration to his beak.
I knew I was in trouble when I noticed he was paying as much attention to me as I was in him. Apparently a decorative item on my hat appeared far too similar to a berry and he decided to give it a taste ... unfortunately I was still wearing the hat at the time. ^^;
The extra attention did make for some nice shots (although there are no good one's from the top of my head).
A stern talking to later, he was back to eating of some local bush instead of my clothing (thankfully). Needless to say, they where very curious and friendly birds.

Farewell to George
Monday, 23 June, 2008, 10:00 - General
He defined a generation, inspired millions and exposed the "7 Words You Can Never Say on Television".
"When cheese gets it's picture taken, what does it say?" - George Carlin

At age 71, George Carlin died of a heart attack this weekend and will be sorely missed by 5 decades worth of fans, whether they where from one of his many children's shows (that always seemed wrong somehow), to his die hard comedy fans.
Myself included. I think I'm going to pull out my old LP's and fire up the record player in honour of the man that helped warp my sense of humour at a very early age and, in a strange way, opened my mind to looking at the world in a very different way.
I burned up many, many hours of my youth listening to his many routines (over 14 albums worth) and can honestly say, he's one of the funniest comedians to have ever walked the Earth.
:censored: The fact that his name appears in American law (due to the airing of his 7 words sketch on a New York radio station and subsequent legal arbitration against censorship and free speech on the air), is just icing on the cake for a man that tackled life's conundrums with a crooked smile.
"Frisbeetarianism is the belief that when you die, your soul goes up on the roof and gets stuck." - George Carliln

To the consumate comedian, philosopher and political activist,
"Party on dude!" ... :hippy:

Volcán Miravalles,
Guanacaste, Costa Rica

The scenery in Costa Rica, really is quite fanastic. Volcanoes, waterfalls, toucans.
I recommend to all, at least one trip there in your lifetime.

NOTE: You may need to zoom out a little (2x - 3x) for the Google Maps link as they do not have particularly good resolution images of that area.

(Taken very near this waterfall from Friday)

Volcán Miravalles,
Guanacaste, Costa Rica

A waterfall cascading down the side of Volcán Miravalles.
Unfortunately, on top of the regular rain that pours down on top of the volcano on a nearly daily basis, a Tropical Storm (Alma) was sitting just off the coast, pushing even more moisture into Costa Rica.
Needless to say, we where more then a little damp. Still the scenery was well worth the soggy hike.

Gag orders and the Chains of Government
Tuesday, 17 June, 2008, 06:03 - - Politics
I was very disturbed to read about the prosecution of Mark Steyn and the potential for his book, "America Alone", to be banned from Canadian shelves.
Banning books? What's next, burning them? Burning people?
What year is this?
